Villa Rosa is a small boutique hotel, one of our favourite properties in Kandy. Located on the Asgiriya side of the hill-country capital, a 15-minute tuk-tuk away from the bustling city centre, this hotel has a Mediterranean feel from the outside while the interior décor is simple, modern and luxurious. The property used to have just six bedrooms but now has been expanded with the addition of a new wing. German owned, the property is well-managed by a charming Sri Lankan team and the result is an atmosphere that is relaxed, friendly and private. The views over the wide, brown Mahaweli River are stunning. The only drawback of the hotel is the absence of a swimming pool, although guests are able to use the large pool at Chaaya Citadel, a nearby four-star hotel.

There is a library, a breakfast room, dining room and a splendid terrace on which to slowly sip a sundowner. The hotel does not have its own swimming pool, although guests can use the Chaaya Citadel pool free-of-charge. Villa Rosa will organize the transfer. There is now a “wellness hut” offering a variety of Ayurvedic treatments.
Excursions The city of Kandy is steeped in history and culture with much to see including the Temple of the Tooth where a sacred tooth relic of the Lord Buddha is enshrined; traditional Kandyan dance and drumming; the Peradeniya Botanical gardens, with its orchid collection and formally laid-out trees; nature walks in Udawatte Kelle Forest Reserve; and Kandy’s rich ancient arts and crafts including drum making, Dumbara mat waving, and crafting Kandyan jewelry. The Victoria Golf and Country Resort, offering some of the most picturesque fairways is located nearby. The Victoria was voted as `Best Course in Asia 2005’ by the Asian Golf monthly, and ranked in ‘Top 100 Most Beautiful courses in the World,’ by Golfers Digest. |
