Medium size butterfly fish (18 cm), white-grey with few bold black diagonal stripes. Black eye band. More common on the reef front, where it feeds only on living coral tissues. As corallivorous is not very demanding: its large and blunt snout is fit for feeding on many species of hard coral. It lives in territorial pairs. Living in areas with a rich hard coral cover. Juveniles are solitary and always associated with branching corals.
